He has a degree in electronic engineer, he's a researcher and Director of the IRA-CNR Radio telescopes in Medicina and SETI Italia. He manages the Medicina radioastronomy station with a great enthusiasm. He concentrates on the study and the scientific research of the radio emitters coming from the deep space, in particular: comets, pulsars and asteroids, which are potentially dangerous. |
| The big antennas called Northern Cross, is one of the most bigger telescope in the world. It is composed of two perpendicular arms that are 564 m long (East-West) and 640 m long (North-South) and it has a useable total surface area of 30000 m2. | ![]() |

| One of the most important result got by the Astronomic Centre was the identification of a comet's impact on Jupiter's surface. This collision was observed by VLBI antenna and in July 1994 it discovered the presence of H2O molecules in Jupiter. In 1998, the International Astronomical Union (IAU) assigned to Stelio an asteroid with his own name called 14573 Montebugnoli (Main belt asteroid). |
